The Harlem Renaissance (bloggo)
In class today, we had to teach our fellow classmates about a certain icon from the Harlem Renaissance.
Two of these individuals that stood out to me was Billie Holiday (presented by Lalli) and Zora Neal Hurston (presented by Lorin). Both of them shared humble beginnings, they started off as disadvantaged. Their families were poor, they didn’t have access to much public, yet they still managed to prove themselves in an unfriendly society and still be successful. I usually admire people whose lives mirror those “from rags to riches” stories (ex: Elon Musk, go read his childhood biography if you are interested).
Billie Holiday and Zora Hurston both used their work to inspire other people to put their work in to be successful. The two both contributed to the Harlem Renaissance by providing their own emotions through their creative works (poetry, songs, music, etc). The content they produced brought more attention to the Harlem Renaissance that helped the movement grow even more.
Their works impacted society by showing some parts of society from different cultures that they wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to.
