Tuesdays with Morrie - The Seminars

Today (5/4/17) we had our 4th and final seminar on the Memoir Tuesdays with Morrie. We discussed several topics, but the one discussed the most was death, and how people like us or Morrie perceive death. This topic popped up at least once in each seminar, even though most of the opening questions dealt with different themes. This pattern is probably due to the concept of death being present in most of the book.

"What trends did you notice with yourself and your personal goals for each seminar? How did your personal goal(s) change and what did you actively do to change throughout our last four discussions?"

Personally, I noticed that my personal goals for the seminar stayed the same, my main goal throughout the 4 seminars was to try to develop the discussion by introducing similar (but different) topics. For the first 3 seminars, I was having trouble with finding topics to introduce due to the discussions talking about different topics. In order to solve this, I used my Socratic seminar sheets to record when different topics were discussed in Tuesdays with Morrie, this resulted in me becoming more involved in the final seminar compared to the previous 3.

"What trends did you notice with the class for each seminar? What did you notice that helped or hindered a specific seminar?"

One trend I noticed with the whole class is that (mostly) everyone seemed eager to contribute to the seminar. This both helped and hindered all of the seminars, but not as much on the 1st one. People’s eagerness to speak helped by making it really easy to develop the discussion, but it also hindered it because it would result in people speaking over each other, causing confusion as to who would talk.
