They Deserve More (a sonnet, first attempt at a sonnet)

Veterans, we shan't take them for granted
They sacrifice many important things,
Without our thanks, their work is not scanted
They sometimes even give up what life brings.

Whether it be Korea, Vietnam,
Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Haiti,
These horrors you have been through; still aplomb
The strain carried, it might still be weighty

Veterans are sometimes not even thanked,
They deserve more than this, for what they do
Though they are sometimes shot, bombed, maybe shanked.
But their scars, these things we cannot undo

Our thankfulness is truly quite sincere
We should always, always, thank them. All year.
