1st Quarter reflection
Hello! It's the last day of the first quarter today (Friday) and even in this short time I have changed a lot, more on the terms of the way I write/type.
My blogs have been definitely progressing since August because in between now and back then, I have learned to use the TIQA format better due to Mrs. Larson letting us use it in most of our class work in the beginning of the school year. To follow that, my writing has progressed, because beforehand, I only wrote in class before. Never at home. I feel like I have been able to develop my style, it seems more personal and less robotic compared to, for example, my writing in 5th grade. Some reasons to this are that we read quite a bit, Of Beatles and Angels, The Cask of Amontillado, and library books reading several different themes of writing can most definitely help you develop a "personality" to your work.
The previously mentioned TIQA format is also a new thing I learned to use this year. I found that it has been very useful in writing informational writings, like Article of the week, and sometimes essays. Some advantages are that it is very simple and easy to use, while still being able to display a lot of information.
Currently, I am at 13/20 books read for my 20 book challenge. To add to that, I have made some attempts at adding variety to what I read. I am reading more realistic fiction which I usually don't do. I am also reading a book named "Operation paperclip" which discusses what happened to Nazi scientists after World War 2. I am also reading a fiction book called "Freaks" which has a very different theme than compared to the other books I have read.
Every year I set goals for myself because every year I find out that there is still more to learn. Some of my goals for ELA this year is to learn how to understand the story of some books. For example, I attempted to read "To kill a Mockingbird" a while ago and failed to understand some. There are some other books I want to be able to read and understand. I also want to add more words to my vocab. This would help me in terms of the way I write because there isn't too much variety in my writing. I expect that later in the year that I will most likely find more goals to reach.
In conclusion, I have learned a lot in this short period of time, and I hope to learn a lot more. I believe that as long as you can, you should make the best attempt you can to improve yourself as a person by learning.
